We recommend looking for faculty members that you are personally interested in working with based on their research. Take some time to learn about different labs and projects, then reach out to a few that you'd be particularly interested in working with. Students are able to earn up to 3 credit hours toward the Biology major through Independent Study course BIOL 399 when working with faculty.

Office of Pre-Professional Advising |
The Office of Pre-Professional and Graduate Advising is the next step in your path towards your professional career. We assist students on the pre-med, pre-health, and pre-law tracks, as well as, students going onto other graduate schools in acquiring the knowledge and the opportunities to help you prepare for that eventual application. Along with your academic advisor, we want to ensure that you are doing everything necessary, in and out of the classroom, to have a competitive application for professional school.

Creating a Parallel Plan
At this point in your undergraduate career, you may think you are set on what you plan to do after graduation, possibly medical school or a master's program. Things do change from time to time for all kinds of reasons, and we want you to be prepared should your "Plan A" not be exactly what you were expecting, and you need a "Plan B". Plan B, which will be what we call your parallel plan, would be an alternate track you might follow should your first plan not go as expected. This could be a secondary major you have in mind, a different graduate or professional program you might enter, or even a different school you might want to attend.
