Background: I'm from Columbia, SC and moved to Spartanburg, SC to study Biology and Chinese at Wofford College. My Chinese degree was mostly just for fun, and it granted me the opportunity to study abroad in Beijing for a semester! My love for biology really started my sophomore year of high school, but like many people, I thought the only career options for a biologist involved Med-School, Dental-School, etc. Thankfully, I realized I could be a college professor, especially since I love to talk about biology and teach people.
At USC: I didn't have much research experience after completing undergrad, so I volunteered in the lab of Dr. Stewart here at USC for a few months before being hired as a Lab Technician. After a year, I joined the USC Biological Sciences PhD program, which I completed in 2021. My research specialty dealt with DNA replication, DNA damage repair, and telomere protection. I've been an instructor here at USC since Fall 2021.
